If you’re on our mailing list or follow us on social media, then there’s no doubt that you’ve learned about WASTE WATER, our collaboration with eco-artist Mariah Reading that has culminated in a gallery show at Casco Bay Arts in Portland from March 30-April 16.
WASTE WATER features marine debris that has been collected by MITA volunteers and transformed by the artist into exquisite and impactful works of art. A portion of the proceeds from all art sales will go towards supporting MITA’s programming.
We were familiar with Mariah’s work prior to joining forces with her for this endeavor, but now that we’ve had a role in the process and have seen the full evolution from picking up shoreline debris to seeing the finished pieces, we are absolutely floored by Mariah’s vision and talent.
The Opening Reception, held on March 30, was a MITA event for the ages. We are so thankful for Casco Bay Artisans and New England Ocean Cluster for hosting us in their incredible venues on the Maine Wharf, and to Bangs Island Mussels, Love Point Oysters, Maine Oyster Company, and Rising Tide Brewing for providing the event with the most delectable food and beverage.
