Burnt Island Overnight Requests

Burnt Island is open primarily for day use with limited overnight options. Reservations are required for all overnight use and must be requested via the form below at least two weeks in advance. Please read the following information carefully.

Background Information & Overnight Use Reservation Process:

Privately-owned Burnt Island in Muscongus Bay is an active place where seasonal residences, Outward Bound programs, and lobstering operations coexist. To help maintain this balance, the landowner has special criteria for overnight use of the island, which is a privilege that is extended only to MITA members and not to the general public. These requirements are firm and exceptions will not be made. Thank you for helping us maintain this privilege of access by adhering to the requirements below.

  • All overnight guests must be current MITA members. A Sustaining level membership covers all members of your household (click here to become a member).
  • Reservation requests must be made at least two weeks prior to your stay.
  • At least two hours of light trail work per person per night, or a suggested donation of $50 per person per night is required to use the cabin (tools provided).
  • No fires or pets.

After you fill out the form below, MITA will be in touch with more information. Please contact Maria Jenness at maria@mita.org with any questions.
