A group of volunteers from CIEE and MITA Regional Stewardship Manager Chris Wall went out to an island in Saco Bay to address a large number of traps on the island. This island is privately-owned, but the owner needed help getting the traps off the island, and Chris and the volunteers stepped in to help.

The group headed out to the island and found many traps along the shoreline, but not as many as had been reported. After some scouting, they realized that many of the traps had been pushed back further by winter storm surge, and vegetation had grown around them. This called for a lot more strenuous work!

After digging all the traps out of the vegetation, the crew had recovered the right amount of traps and piled them all together to await transport off the island.

Thank you so much to this stellar group from CIEE! The island owner and users are so appreciative of your efforts.
