Rex Turner works as an Outdoor Recreation Planner at the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands. He helps plan and manage outdoor recreation resources for the Bureau – most notably human-powered resources on Maine Public Lands. Rex also periodically leads regional and statewide planning initiatives as well as serving as a liaison with partner groups such as the Maine Appalachian Trail Club, various mountain bike groups, the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, and – of course – MITA. A native Mainer, Rex is passionate about stewarding the outdoors and sharing its profound inspirations. Working with MITA is a one of the highlights of his work due to the amazing resources along the Trail and the strong relationship between MITA and the Bureau.
Rex lives in Augusta and has an MS degree in Forestry from the University of Maine and a BS in Recreation and Parks Management- also from the University of Maine. In his spare time, he enjoys family time in the outdoors, writing and creating, coaching youth sports, and a good game of pond hockey.
