MITA member Kaleigh Charette and her fiance Evan submitted this report of an engagement celebration Maine-Island-Trail-style. Exploring the Trail is a spectacular way to spend meaningful time with folks you love!
In August my fiance and I decided to celebrate our engagement with a weekend camping getaway to Boothbay Harbor. We launched our kayaks at Knickercane and headed toward Indiantown Island for lunch and a quick hike. When we stopped for lunch on the east shore of Indiantown we were joined by a harbor seal who would pop up every once in a while to greet us.
From Indiantown we paddled over to Spectacle Island where we made camp to spend the night. The sunset was amazing and I captured some great photos.
That night we were awakened several times by unnatural splashing noises which sounded like someone was dropping boulders into the water. The next morning we were eating breakfast looking out over the water and huge Atlantic sturgeons were breaching! That explained the splashing noise during the night and it was amazing to be able to watch.
Can’t wait for our next adventure! Thanks MITA!
